Scotiabank Connects With Cardtronics to Extend ATM Access Into Canadian 7-Eleven Stores

HOUSTON, June 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cardtronics (Nasdaq:CATM) today announced—as part of an ATM branding deal between the bank and Cardtronics Canada, Ltd.—Scotiabank will brand Cardtronics' entire portfolio of 7-Eleven Canada-located ATMs, delivering expanded fee-free ATM access to Scotiabank customers. Scotiabank (NYSE:BNS) (TMX:BNS), with $660 billion in assets, is one of North America's premier financial institutions. Cardtronics Canada, Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the world's largest retail ATM owner, Cardtronics, Inc., and 7-Eleven's exclusive ATM service provider in Canada.

With an ATM count surpassing 470 cash machines, Cardtronics' portfolio of 7-Eleven Canada-located ATMs helps Scotiabank expand totally free ATM access by 15 percent in Canada, where Scotiabank will soon offer its customers a total of nearly 3,500 fee-free ATMs. Cardtronics-owned, Scotiabank-branded ATMs provide Scotiabank customers with convenient, fee-free access to cash in 7-Eleven stores located in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan. Complete Scotiabank branding of all 470-plus Cardtronics-owned, 7-Eleven Canada-located ATMs, and with it fee-free access for Scotiabank customers, is expected later this summer.

"To meet the convenience needs of our customers, Scotiabank explores all options for expanding ATM access, at bank branches as well as retail stores that are already part of customers' daily routines," said Troy Wright, executive vice-president, retail distribution, Canadian Banking, Scotiabank. "By establishing this ATM branding relationship with Cardtronics, Scotiabank gives its customers the benefit of fee-free and handily-located ATM access at 7-Eleven, one of the largest convenience store chains in Canada."

Scotiabank also works with Cardtronics to offer its customers expanded ATM access in Puerto Rico, where the bank established an ATM branding relationship with Cardtronics in 2010.

"Similar to 7-Eleven expanding its Cardtronics relationship earlier this year, Scotiabank has chosen to grow internationally with us," said Mike Clinard, president, global services, Cardtronics. "Beyond validating our ability to complement branch ATMs with the convenience of bank-branded ATMs in premier retail locations, Scotiabank endorses Cardtronics' professionalism in representing the Scotiabank brand. Scotiabank customers using these Cardtronics cash machines will benefit from the same strong security measures that are built into all Scotiabank ATMs. And, they gain the convenience of picking up 7-Eleven's iconic Slurpee drink and their cash at the same place."
